What Happens During Curing?

Freshly unmolded soap contains approximately 35-40% water. During curing, this water gradually evaporates.

Moisture Evaporation

A well-cured bar loses about 10-15% of its original weight.

Complete Saponification

Any remaining unsaponified oils undergo further reaction with residual lye.

Hardness Development

As moisture evaporates, soap molecules concentrate, leading to harder bars.

pH Changes

Fresh soap has pH 9-12. Cured soap should have pH 8-10.
